Two questions to ask before you put down a rental deposit on a Disney area vacation home!
1: Is my vacation week in that home guaranteed (other than a natural disaster of course!)?
2: Is the property I am booked in currently for sale?
So a little background. I recently rented a few vacation homes that I don’t personally manage, and was surprised to find out in the fine details of the contract, that my week could be canceled at the last minute (despite being paid in full!) if the owner decided to come in to town and use his/her home. WOW! I poked around a bit and found out that this is not at all unusual in the vacation home rental business.
Secondly, one of the homes that I rented was for sale. Who knows the reason, but I suspect the owner was in a bit of a financial pinch as things were starting to look a little shabby and neglected. However, my main concern is what if I had booked the property well in advance and the home was sold in the meantime. The new owner has no obligation to honor my contract for that rental week. Heck they may want to live there permanently and not make it a vacation rental, so I really can’t blame them!
In summary, ask those two questions before you book your precious Disney area vacation week!
